June's Enigmatic Cells are Glial Cells

Mystery Picture
Here you can see these cells highlighted against the backgrond of surrounding cells..

We can see at least one glial cell body (gb), in which are featured glycogen granules (gly) and mitochondria (mit).
We can also see some glial processes (gp), which extend up in between the retinula cells of the retina.

The glial cell featured in May's picture quiz shows how these processes extend out from the cell body, as well as some of the other features of the cell.

The rather empty-looking profiles in this electron-micrograph are not all glia, some of them are the axons (from the retinula cells) making up the optic nerve.

More details are given in the Opiliones Notes.
